Annette M. Thompson is a registered Patent Agent admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). She brings a wealth of experience and focuses her practice on the preparation and prosecution of both domestic and international patent portfolios. Ms. Thompson has represented a broad spectrum of high-technology companies and industry leaders—handling complex prosecution matters and appeals with strategic insight and technical precision.

Her technology expertise spans telecommunications (including wireless standards), microprocessors, electronic design automation, digital and analog communication systems, and AI.  Ms. Thompson maintains a particular interest in subject matter eligibility analysis, a critical and evolving area in patent law.

Ms. Thompson's career is also grounded in substantial industry experience. As an electrical engineer at the Microelectronics Center of Xerox Corporation, she was an integral member of various design teams, gaining valuable hands-on experience in the development of innovative technologies. She later served as a Primary Patent Examiner at the USPTO, where she gained insider knowledge of the examination process. Her time at the USPTO also included serving as a lecturer at the Patent Academy, where she trained new Examiners in patent law, practice, and procedure—experience that continues to inform her practice and enhance the quality of her service.

An accomplished public speaker, Ms. Thompson is recognized for her ability to distill complex IP concepts into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences. She holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, with an emphasis in Computer Science, from Stanford University. She is a member of Phi Delta Phi, the international legal honor fraternity.
